- I want to install RSI-Shield 4.x but
I still have version 3.x currently installed. What can you tell me?
We recommend installing RSI-Shield 4.x over RSI-Shield 3.x. You can
uninstall RSI-Shield 3.x, but it is better if you did not. If you
just install RSI-Shield 4.x over version 3.x, the installation procedure
will automatically uninstall the older version.
- The options 'Profiles' and 'Exit'
in the context-menu are gray (unselectable), what does this mean?
This means that you have the option 'No-discipline mode' turned on.
This option can be found on the Advanced Settings screen. It makes
sure that RSI-Shield can not be turned off. The program can not even
be 'killed' then. You can also turn this option on or off via the
Wizard.
This option also makes sure you can not postpone breaks, during
breaks you can do nothing else than wait.
- The registration code
for RSI-Shield does not work anymore. What should I do?
You can apply for a new registration code via the following page:
http://www.rsishield.com/english/reqcode.php
- How do I stop RSI-Shield?
Left click on the RSI-Shield counter (bottom right of the screen)
and select the 'Exit' option from the menu that appears.
However, this option is gray (unselectable) if you have the option
'Un-discipline mode' turned on. You can find this option on the Advanced
Settings screen of the Settings Program.
- Can I make the menu, which appears
when I left click on the RSI-Shield counter, appear with the
keyboard?
Yes, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P and the menu appears.
- How can the RSI-Shield settings
program be started?
There are three ways to do this: (1) right click on the RSI-Shield
counter (bottom right of the screen), (2) Choose the option
Settings Program in the program group of RSI-Shield..., (3) Open the
context-menu by left clicking on the RSI-Shield counter
or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P and select the upper most (bold) option..
- Can I see when the next break is due?
Yes, the counter (bottom right of the screen) shows when the next
break starts. Furthermore, you can see what kind of break the next
break will be by looking at the bold number: 1 means the next break
is a 'Micro break', 2 means 'Medium break' and 3 means
'Macro break'. During a break the function of the counter changes.
The counter starts to blink and it will countdown to the end of the
break. As of version 3.5, you can start a movie which
will fully explain the counter. You can start this movie by left
clicking on the counter. A menu will appear. Select the option 'Movies'
and select 'Start the introduction movie clip' from the list.
- I do not fully understand how
the RSI-Shield counter works and I do not understand the different types
of breaks.
As of version 3.5, a movie clip is enclosed, which
explains (amongst others) the function of the RSI-Shield
counter and the different types of breaks. You can start the movie
clip by making the context-menu appear (press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P), select
the option 'Movies' and select 'Start the introduction movie clip'
from the list.
- I want less then 3 kinds of breaks.
Is that possible?
Yes, start the RSI-Shield settings program and go to the 'Settings
screen'. In this screen there are 3 areas, called: 'Micro Break, 'Medium
Break' en 'Macro Break'. In front of the last two names you can see
a check-box. If you only want two breaks, you have to remove the check-mark
in front of 'Macro Break'. If you only want one break, you have to
remove the check-mark in front of 'Medium Break' too.
- I don't want to be able to control
anything during the breaks. So, also no mouse scroll-wheel, Alt+Tab
or Ctrl+Alt+Del. Is that possible?
Yes, start the RSI-Shield settings program and make sure the option
'No-discipline mode' on the Advanced Settings screen is check-marked.
- I don't want RSI-Shield to disable
my keyboard and mouse during the breaks. Can I indicate that somewhere?
Yes, start the RSI-Shield settings program and make sure there are
no check-marks in front of the following options (at the bottom of
the settings screen): 'Disable Keyboard', 'Disable Mouse'. If these
options are gray, you should remove the check-mark at the option 'No-discipline
mode' on the Advanced Settings screen.
- If a break starts at a very inconvenient
moment, can I postpone it?
Yes, you can do this by using the so called 'snooze' option. If a
break starts at a inconvenient time, you can postpone it by pressing
the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Spacebar keys. Keep in mind that you will temporarily
get extra breaks at a later moment, as a sort of punishment. The key
combination (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Spacebar) can be changed at the 'Advanced
Settings' screen.
However, if you have the option 'No-discipline mode' on the Advanced
Settings screen turned on, you can not postpone breaks.
- I don't have any discipline;
sometimes when I see the break announcement, I quickly turn off RSI-Shield.
How can I avoid this?
You can enable the option 'No-discipline mode' on the Advanced Settings
screen. This option makes sure that RSI-Shield can not be turned off.
The program can not even be 'killed' then. You can also turn this
option on or off via the Wizard.
This option also makes sure you can not postpone breaks, during
breaks you can do nothing else than wait.
- I don't want to see any exercises
during the breaks, is this possible?
Yes, start the RSI-Shield settings program. In the screen there are
3 areas, called: 'Micro Break', 'Medium Break' and 'Macro Break'.
In each of these areas is a field called 'Show exercises during this
break'. Make sure non of these fields are check-marked.
- The software only shows exercises
during the longest break (Macro break), but I would also like to see
exercises during other breaks, is this possible?
Yes, start the RSI-Shield settings program. On the screen are 3 areas,
called: 'Micro Break', 'Medium Break' and 'Macro Break'. In each of
these areas is a field called 'Show exercises during this break'.
Check the box in front of these fields if you want exercises to be
shown during that particular break.
- Can I choose which exercises
RSI-Shield will show?
Yes, in the Settings Program on the 'Exercises screen' you can indicate
which exercises will be shown and which won't, by putting them in
the appropriate list.
- Can I indicate the maximum number
of exercises RSI-Shield will show in a row?
Yes, in the RSI-Shield Settings Program on the 'Exercises screen'
you can indicate the maximum number of exercises RSI-Shield will show
in a row, behind the field 'Maximum number of exercises'. If you want
to see exercises for as long as the break lasts, you can enter a very
high number here (e.g. 1000). If you don't want to see any exercise
during the breaks, you can enter 0.
- Sometimes RSI-Shield counts down
twice as fast as normal. Is this a mistake?
No, this is no mistake. This is the penalty-break mode. As you may
know, the breaks of RSI-Shield can be postponed if they come at an
inconvenient moment. This can be done in two ways: by using the snooze-key-combination
and automatically when you are on the Internet.
To prevent that one would constantly postpone breaks, there are consequences
attached to snoozing. If a break gets snoozed, RSI-Shield will (as
it were) jump back in time and give you some additional time to work.
After that, you still get the break and the two active periods after
that will go by twice as fast. If you postpone a break twice, three
active periods will run twice as fast and if you postpone a break
three times, four periods go twice as fast etc.
- When a movie-clip should be shown
I get the following error message: 'MMSYSTEM006 There is no driver
installed on your system.'. What can I do to solve this?
This is no fault of RSI-Shield, but of Windows (the Cinepak codec
is probably not correctly installed). Download the latest Microsoft
Media Player from the Microsoft site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download)
and install it. If that does not help, take a look at the following
site for a solution: http://www.webdevelopersjournal.com/drivers/mmsystem006/mmsystem006.html
- The key combinations for the recording
and playback of Quick Macros are conflicting with another program.
Can they be changed?
Yes, execute the following Macro script to extend the key combinations
with an Alt key. The combination will become Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Arrow
up and Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Arrow down: ChangeHotkeys.tma
You can also change the combinations yourself, by changing the values
behind the following words in the text file ''environment.ini' (in
the RSI-Shield folder: C:\Program Files\Tronan\RSI-Shield):
QuickmacroRecKey
QuickmacroPlayKey
QuickmacroRecMod
QuickmacroPlayMod
- I want to install RSI-Shield on
Windows NT / Windows 2000. Do I need to mind something?
Yes, to be able to run the installation of RSI-Shield you must be
logged in as an administrator or as a user with administrator level
rights
- We want to buy 30 licenses of RSI-Shield
for our company. Do we have to request separate registration-codes
for all 30 computer systems?
No, if you have a network the best option is to buy 30 network licenses.
You will get a small program from us, that you run on a server of
your company. You only have to request a registration-code for that
program. The software will make sure that 30 arbitrary computer systems
can be used for running RSI-Shield at the same time.
- I want to back-up the RSI-Shield
user-profiles. What do I need to keep in order to restore all profiles
at a later time?
In the folder where RSI-Shield was installed (e.g. C:\Program Files\Tronan\RSI-Shield),
there is at least 1 file with the *.rsf (RSI-Shield
file) extension. Each such a file represents a user-profile.
Copy this file/these files to a safe place. There is nothing more
to back-up. If you want to restore the profiles at a later time, you
just copy them back into the RSI-Shield folder.
- I want to use RSI-Shield with multiple
persons on the same computer. Is that allowed? If it is allowed, how
can I handle this the best?
Yes, that is allowed. You may use RSI-Shield with multiple persons
with a single RSI-Shield license. A RSI-Shield license does, however,
not give you the right to use a registered version of RSI-Shield on
multiple computers. Follow the following steps to use RSI-Shield with
multiple persons on a single computer:
- Install RSI-Shield in the normal fashion.
- Create a Windows account for each user (look in the help of
Windows to see how that is done).
- Create a user-profile for every user or let the user create
one himself (choose one of these options):
- Press Ctrl+W to start the Wizard and enter the same name,
as the name with which the user has to log in to Windows,
as a profile name.
- Press Ctrl+P to start the Profile Manager, press the 'New'
button and enter the same name, as the name with which the
user has to log in to Windows, as a profile name.
- Let every user create his or her own profile when he/she
logs into Windows for the first time. Tell the user to use
the profile-name suggested by RSI-Shield.
- If a user logs into Windows, RSI-Shield will determine if there
is a user-profile available with the same name as the name with
which the user has logged in to Windows. If RSI-Shield finds such
a profile, it will automatically use that one.
