Graphs
In paragraph 7.10 we have told that RSI-Shield
keeps extensive statistics about the computer usage. Every key hit or
mouse move is registered and kept. Using the statistics screen (covered
in paragraph 7.10) you can see, per day, how you have used the computer.
The drawback of this method is that you can not get a good overview, because
only the information of one particular day is shown. When you want a better
overview; want to see the days in relation to each other, you can use
the graphs screen. This can be very useful to study your working behavior.
You can see, for example, whether or not you have been using the keyboard
more than the mouse (which is recommended for many people). Press Ctrl+6
to make the graphs screen visible (look at picture 7.13).
TIP Use the Tronan Report program (see chapter 14) to export the statistics to a spreadsheet program and create graphs of the data of multiple users.

Protect graphs with
a password
Just like with the statistics (look at paragraph 7.10),
graphs can also be protected by a password. The usage of a password in the graphs
screen, works exactly the same as in the statistics screen. When you set a password
for the graphs screen, the same password is automatically set for the statistics
screen and visa versa (so there is only 1 password for both screens). If you
want to read more about the usage of passwords, read paragraph
7.10.
View graphs
To let RSI-Shield generate a certain graph, you must
specify 2 parameters: which statistical-information you want to see and over
what period of time. That is all. RSI-Shield will automatically display the
graph in section B (look at picture 7.13). You can choose between the same statistical
information as described in paragraph 7.10. Just
'number of key hits of a specific key' can not be shown in a graph.
NOTE: When one chooses a time-segment, other than in days, the plotted values are calculated to averages per day.
To choose what statistical information should be shown, you can follow these steps:
To choose over what period of time the information must be shown, you can follow these steps:
7.12 Engine at work
RSI-Shield offers the possibility to take a look behind
the scene. You can, as it were, see the engine of RSI-Shield at work. Press
Ctrl+5 to make the Engine at work screen (look at picture 7.14) visible.

Picture 7.14 Engine at work screen
The timeline
The needle (look at picture 7.14 to the right of the
A) in the timeline shows where RSI-Shield is located in relation to the breaks,
at any given moment. The white sections represent periods of activity (when
you can work), the colored sections represent periods of inactivity (when you
have got a break).
Numeric- and time
states
In section B (look at picture 7.14) the states of the
numeric- and time variables are displayed. Here you can see how many times a
break is postponed, how long no keyboard- and mouse activity is detected and
how long it takes for a particular break starts (when the value -1 is displayed
it means that that particular break never comes, because it is disabled).
Binary states
In section C (look at picture 7.14) the states of the
binary variables are displayed. A binary variable can have just two states:
it can be true or it can be false. These are the different binary states:
7.13 Information
In RSI-Shield you can find information about 'the
perfect posture', shortcut keys and about RSI-Shield itself. Press Ctrl+8
to make the information screen visible. The information screen can be controlled
easily: You see three pictures (look at picture 7.15 A) which represent three
different subjects. When you want information about one of these subjects, you
let the mouse pointer (the arrow) hover above one of the pictures (you do not
have to click). At the bottom of the screen (look at picture 7.15 B) the appropriate
information will automatically be displayed. Obviously, you can use the keyboard
to do this (look at paragraph 7.3 for more information
about this).

Information
about RSI-Shield
When you want general information about RSI-Shield,
you can follow these steps:
Information
about 'the perfect posture'
Obviously, the perfect posture does not exist! But it
is important to sit the right way (ergonomically correct). A good working posture
can contribute to the fight against RSI complaints. That is why you can find
information in RSI-Shield, about what a good working posture could be. Follow
these steps to show this information:
Information
about shortcut keys
Many people have indicated, that they have less pain
using the keyboard as they do using the mouse. Although most people do not know
this, almost everything in Windows can be controlled using the keyboard. Controlling
Windows with the keyboard is done with so called shortcut keys. These are key
combinations which execute certain actions. This way you can for example close
a window by pressing Alt+F4 or by pressing Alt+Tab you can switch
between applications. Apart from the fact that it is less painful, the usage
of shortcut keys is also much faster. RSI-Shield has an overview of all kinds
of shortcut keys. You can take a look at this overview by following these steps:
7.14 Register / Order
When you want to use RSI-Shield longer than 60 days,
you must register the software. After 60 days the software locks itself. To
unlock the software, you must order a registration code. Chapter
18 will explain how you can order the software. After you have ordered the
software, you will receive the registration details. The message you will receive,
states several methods to unlock the software. One of the methods is the following
(this is not the easiest though):

7.15 RSI-Shield Web-site
Of course there is a Web-site for RSI-Shield on
the Internet. On this web-site you can find the following, (amongst others):
If you can not or do not want to remember these addresses, you can always follow these steps in the settings program to go to the RSI-Shield site:
7.16 Contact
When you have remarks, suggestions or question,
we would love the hear them. That is why we have added a special screen to the
settings program to make it as easy as possible for you to contact us. There
are several methods to reach us. In chapter 19
several methods are described. One of these methods is the following:
We will reply as soon as possible.
7.17 Online help
When you want help, you can press F1 to go
to the online-help. Online means that the help is on the Internet and is always
up-to-date. If you are reading this via your web-browser, you are already looking
at the online-help. But if you are reading this from, for example, paper or
in your text editor, it could be that the online-help is more recent than what
you are reading now.
7.18 Profile management
A profile is a file that contains specific settings
for a user. RSI-Shield can be used by multiple persons on one computer, thanks
to these so called profiles. How this works exactly, is explained in chapter
9. Via the 'profile manager screen' (look at picture 7.17), you can manage
these profiles. You can add, activate, remove, copy and rename a profile.

Picture 7.17 The profile manager
Create a new profile
When you create a new profile, it is created with certain
default settings. This means that you should (almost always) modify it with
the 'Settings screen' and the 'Advanced settings screen' (look at paragraph
7.6 and paragraph 7.9). To create a new
profile, you can follow these steps:
Activate another
profile
When you want to activate another profile, you can follow
these steps:
Rename a profile
When you want to change the name of an existing profile,
you can follow these steps:
Copy a profile
You can copy a profile to, for example, use it as the
starting point of a new profile or to backup your profile for safety. When you
want to copy an existing profile, you can follow these steps:
Remove a profile
When you want to remove a profile, you can follow these
steps:
